  • Why is it important to look for an eye surgeon who offers options?

    Not everyone is right for the same standard procedures. Some would enjoy far better outcomes with other technologies. Therefore, if only 1 or 2 procedures are offered, you may not make a fully informed decision about what is truly in your best interest.

    The power to treat multiple conditions at once

    Thanks to our wide range of services, we can also treat multiple conditions. For example, we can correct farsightedness, presbyopia or other vision issues during cataract or glaucoma surgery. Get it done once, and get it done right.

  • I’ve heard a lot about LASIK.
    Isn’t it the best option for corrective eye surgery?

    Not necessarily. In fact, LASIK is an appropriate procedure for about 60% of patients. In other cases, there are more suitable procedures that can be safer and offer better outcomes. That is why it is so important to know your options so you can make an informed decision about what is best for you.

  • What about price?

    Once you do your shopping around, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that our prices are highly competitive, especially given the calibre of treatment you receive.

    Our pricing is transparent, with no hidden costs or fees.

    We do not charge according to the strength of your prescription, but do have many premium options you may have never heard of that will give you superior outcomes – and no centre in BC offers such a broad range of services.

  • What about safety?

    Dr. Blaylock has been proudly performing eye surgery for over 20 years, with over 45,000 procedures to his personal credit without a single compromise in quality and safety.

  • What are your success rates?

    Our success rates are outstanding – and we can support our claims with actual statistics. As a research centre, VLEC carefully tracks the outcomes of all our patients and compiles credible, industry-recognized data.

    That means the statistics we give you are actually about Dr. Blaylock and VLEC, rather than numbers published by the manufacturers of a particular technology. After all, when you go in for a procedure, you want to know about the performance of the surgeon operating on you.

  • What about warranties?

    Did you know that, in some cases, vision can be further improved after your initial treatment? We are happy to provide you with enhancement procedures free of charge for up to 1 year following your surgery, should we determine it be beneficial.

    For cataract surgery, we discount all enhancement procedures by 50%.

  • Who is a suitable candidate for eye surgery?

    There is no one ideal candidate. It is on a case by case basis and therefore requires a personal evaluation. As a general rule, however, LASIK and PRK are for those 19-years and older with healthy corneas and no significant change in prescription over the past 12 months.

    If your corneas are not healthy or you have extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, we are pleased to evaluate you for alternative treatments available at our centre.

  • I am terrified of eye surgery.
    Can I receive general anesthetic or IV sedation at VLEC?

    Absolutely. In fact, we are the only refractive centre in BC to offer both these options. That being said, most people feel comfortable with topical eye drops as anesthetic. If you have concerns, talk to Dr. Blaylock and he will be happy to accommodate you.
