The Blaylock Procedure™

Developed by VLEC’s Dr. Blaylock, the Blaylock Procedure™ is a groundbreaking refractive treatment that upgrades the Restore Vision Procedure™ for optimal intermediate vision. Used by surgeons worldwide, the Blaylock Procedure™ allows you to see better near, far and everywhere in between, usually eliminating the need for glasses or contacts altogether.

Furthermore, with The Blaylock Procedure™, you will not get cataracts as you age, as your natural lens has been removed.

What your surgeon will do

Your surgeon removes the natural lens in your eye with ultrasound and aspiration, and replaces it with a bifocal intraocular lens, which will remain with you for your lifetime. During this procedure, your eyes’ focal points are also adjusted so that one of your eyes is calibrated for intermediate vision.

Blaylock Procedure™ FAQs

question

Why opt for the Blaylock Procedure™?

answer

Simple and yet sophisticated, the Blaylock Procedure™ is ideal if you have difficulties focusing on mid-range distance – when sitting at the computer, for example. Plus, we can address multiple vision issues, such as presbyopia, myopia and hyperopia, during the same surgery.

question

How long does it take?

answer

The procedure usually takes about 35 minutes for both eyes.

question

Does it hurt?

answer

The Blaylock Procedure™ is usually painless. If, however, you have any pain, tell Dr. Blaylock and he can easily increase the anesthetic.

question

How long do I have to stay at VLEC after surgery?

answer

After surgery, you will be taken to the recovery area. Once comfortable and feeling well, you will be discharged home, usually about 30 minutes.

question

Do I need to be accompanied?

answer

Yes. You will need to be accompanied on the day of surgery and for your follow-up exam 24 hours after surgery. We kindly ask that your companion wait for you in the comfortable downstairs reception area.

question

Do I need follow-up exams?

answer

Yes, you must be seen at VLEC for your first 24-hour follow-up appointment. Then, you must be examined at two weeks, six weeks, three months and six months. These visits may be done at our center or at your local eye care physician’s office.

question

What is my recovery time?

answer

Once you arrive home, rest and sleep as much as possible for the first 24 hours. You can return to work the following week. Since there is an adjustment period with the Restore Vision Procedure™, it can take six months or sometimes longer for some people to achieve their ultimate visual expectation.

Some patients (3-7%) may need laser refractive surgery, following the lens implant procedure, to correct any residual prescription. This can be performed 3-4 months following the initial procedure and is performed without additional fees for the first year.
